The Bitter Dose

by F.D. Jarvis

Why do they say I’m fine when shadows cloud my mind?
One pill in the morning, one at night, but no peace do I find.
What does the doctor know of the darkness deep inside,
Where whispers of despair and broken dreams reside?

They claim these meds will make me smile,
Yet I wander through the void, feeling lost all the while.
Mom and dad insist I’ll be alright,
Because the doctor said so, it must be right.

But my mind betrays me with lies it speaks.
They call it anxiety, but my soul quietly weeps. Years vanish in the abyss, tears drench my bed,
Pain unseen by others, where all light has fled.

Isolation is my only friend
In this never-ending night, where does it end?
Pills can’t heal the wounds that ache;
A life so hollow, it’s too much to fake.

So here I remain, in this silent fight,
Yearning for dawn but imprisoned in night.
The doctor’s words are an empty decree.
In this desolate world, it’s only me.
